A word to the wise this Christmas

How is it almost Christmas already? Well, obviously this year has basically been a write off anyway. But all the same, it’s only 6 weeks till Santa pays us a visit and at Belle Copy, it means we’re knee deep in preparation for the Christmas charity appeals.

But this Christmas understandably feels different. Because one of the biggest victims of this pandemic has been the charities, many of whom have seen their income drop by over 50% as a result of the restrictions on fundraising activities. Coupled with the fact that so many of us are struggling with job instability and have less to donate than normal.

Which means this year, charities need to be even smarter than usual about their approach. But what is it that will move hearts and minds...and consequently wallets, this Christmas?

We’re of the belief it’s all about being succinct, punchy and dynamic. What do you mean by ‘punchy’ we hear you ask? Well you’ve got to pack a punch from the get-go. Attention spans are short. We need to hook our audience in fast. And we also need to use multiple channels. The Christmas appeal has traditionally been a door drop. And although we still recognise the enormous value of direct mail, we also know that the quickest way to turn interest into donations is through the web. So, we’re working hard to ensure that our appeals are dynamic, multi-faceted and able to reach the widest possible audience.

This Christmas, please play your part. Take that extra minute to read an appeal. Choose one or two and donate, no matter how big or small. Because if we can’t cling on to kindness, generosity and community spirit during these dark times, we’ll be all the poorer when we finally make it back into the light.
